Tuesday Tale: Providing Direction
In March, students across the state will compete at the State High School Mock Trial Competition. This opportunity for our state’s youth, including many other law related education programs, is made possible through the SC Bar Law Related Education.
The SC Bar Law Related Education (LRE) leads the way for civic education in South Carolina, providing free and low cost trainings to teachers, school resource officers, juvenile justice personnel and lawyers. LRE also helps educators to implement programs, including Community Works; Foundations of Democracy; Elementary, Middle, and High School Mock Trial, LawForKids.org; Law For Teachers; Street Law; We the People: Project Citizen; and We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution. LRE hosts culminating activities to include regional and state competitions for Mock Trial, Project Citizen; and We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution.
As one South Carolina teacher described the We the People program, “Everything about this competition is a winner. I love the way the SC Bar provides all information and instructional materials in a timely manner to teachers. The comments of the judges are very encouraging to students…I think because this is not a “head-to-head” competition, students feel more comfortable and confident in responding to the judges’ questions, especially for middle school. Thank you for offering this program to South Carolina students.”
